About the stadium

The Johan Cruyff ArenA is the home of Ajax Amsterdam, set in the modern Bijlmermeer district in the south-east of the city. It is also the largest stadium in the Netherlands, with a capacity of more than 55,000.

It opened in 1996 as the Amsterdam ArenA and was renamed in 2018 after Johan Cruyff, the club legend and icon of Dutch football.

The ground was an early adopter of a retractable roof, which closes in about half an hour, and has become a reference point for innovation and sustainability. Alongside Ajax matches and games for the national team, it has staged major international events, including Euro 2000, Euro 2020 and the 1998 Champions League final, as well as concerts by global stars such as Beyoncé, U2 and Coldplay.

Visitors can go behind the scenes on the Stadium Tour, taking in the official dressing rooms, the players' tunnel, the pitchside, the press room and the Ajax trophy gallery. The route walks through the biggest moments of Dutch football and pays tribute to the striker Johan Cruyff.

The Johan Cruyff ArenA is easy to reach by metro (lines 50 and 54, station Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA) or by train from the central station. It sits at the centre of a busy complex that includes the Ziggo Dome, the Amsterdamse Poort shopping centre and plenty of restaurants.

It was well worth the visit. We went during the week and it was very quiet. We got a glimpse into the locker room area, the stadium, and the trophy hall. The price is €30 per person for a guided tour with an audio guide. It was definitely worth the visit.

Only 1 star for the museum and shop. It is shameful for a club with such a great history like Ajax to have all their history museum in one small room . Nothing about former coaches Rinus Michels, Stefan Kovacs. You must to learn from clubs like Benfica, Barcelona, Real to respect yours history. Even SV Hamburg when they lived bad times in 2Bundealiga had a much better museum and shop. Maybe You don't want to make money from merchandising.

"A great visit to the Johan Cruijff ArenA! As the home of Ajax, the stadium is filled with much history and legend. Even on a non-match day, the energy of the arena is amazing, and the tour was well-organized. You can really feel the spirit of the club here.

An outstanding and memorable experience for any football fan. The stadium tour is very well organized and gives you behind-the-scenes access to iconic areas, including the players’ tunnel, locker rooms, and the pitch view — truly impressive. The museum is rich in history and perfectly showcases Ajax’s legendary legacy, trophies, and unforgettable moments. Everything is presented in an engaging and modern way, making the visit both informative and enjoyable. The staff were professional and helpful, and the overall experience felt well worth the time and money. Whether you’re an Ajax supporter or simply a football enthusiast, this visit is a must when in Amsterdam. Highly recommended.

Good stadium visit, Quite cheap for the amount of stadium you get to see. We also got money off the shop when we did the tour not sure if they still do that now. Easy enough to get to as well use the tube station from Amsterdam Central Station, Tickets for the train are cheap

We were at the Ajax Museum in Amsterdam on 28 December 2024. The museum is located directly in the Ajax Amsterdam stadium. We booked a simple tour. We were able to visit the changing rooms, the press conference room and of course the stadium itself. Finally, we went to the trophy room. There we were able to admire all the trophies from the club's history and the Wall of Fame, including club legend Johann Cruijff. It really is very impressive and we can recommend it.
