About the stadium

The Unipol Domus is the temporary home ground of Cagliari Calcio, and it has been in regular use since 2017 while the neighbouring Sant'Elia stadium is rebuilt, the old ground having been declared unfit for purpose. Put up in just four months, this modular arena holds 16,416 spectators in a fully enclosed rectangular bowl that generates a strong atmosphere on matchdays.

The ground sits roughly 3 km from the centre of Cagliari, between the Quartu salt flats and the Sardinian canal, in the Sant'Elia district, close to both the Poetto beach and the Sella del Diavolo headland. Originally opened as the Sardegna Arena, it took its current name in 2021 following a ten-year naming rights deal with the Italian insurance company Unipol.

Despite its temporary status, the stadium has been modified along the way: the western corners were filled in during 2018 to slightly increase capacity and close off the sightlines around the stands.

The site also houses the Cagliari 1920 History & Gallery museum, opened in 2017. On display are trophies, shirts, photographs and memorabilia covering more than a century of rossoblù football, from the 1969–70 Scudetto to the club's most celebrated figures, including Gigi Riva.

The museum can be visited as part of a guided tour of Unipol Domus, which takes in the behind-the-scenes areas: the museum, dressing rooms and press room, ending pitchside for photographs.
