About the stadium
Opened in 2013 to replace the aging Stade du Ray, the Allianz Riviera is Nice's current home ground. Built in the Saint-Isidore district within the Eco-Vallée development zone, the stadium holds 36,178 spectators and hosts OGC Nice matches alongside major sporting and cultural events.
Designed by Jean-Michel Wilmotte, the structure is recognizable for its light-touch architecture combining wood and metal, along with a serious environmental brief. Over 4,000 solar panels cover the roof and generate several times the stadium's own energy consumption; natural ventilation and an autonomous irrigation system complete its eco-stadium credentials.
Inside, the Allianz Riviera offers fully covered stands and a range of facilities including concession stands and Wi-Fi throughout.
The arena has a wide range of uses: international matches, the 2023 Rugby World Cup, Euro 2016, concerts by artists such as Beyoncé and Céline Dion, as well as regular congresses and seminars.
The stadium also houses the Musée National du Sport, making it a genuine cultural destination. Guided tours give access to the changing rooms, the pitchside, VIP areas, and the press room for a thorough look behind the scenes.
One drawback that comes up regularly: the out-of-town location makes the journey from central Nice longer than ideal, though tram line 3 now provides direct access on match days.
Modern, multi-purpose, and built with sustainability in mind, the Allianz Riviera has become a fixed point on the Côte d'Azur's sporting map.
