About the stadium

The Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, located in the Fuorigrotta district, has been home to SSC Napoli since 1959. The third-largest stadium in Italy, it currently holds 54,726 spectators following several renovations, including work carried out for the 2019 Universiade.

Its ring-shaped architecture and the athletics track surrounding the pitch give it an old-school, unpolished character unlike most modern grounds. On big match nights, the noise levels can be extraordinary: up to 113 decibels were recorded during a Champions League match against Liverpool in 2022.

Originally known as the Stadio del Sole, then San Paolo, it was renamed in 2020 in honour of the player who left a permanent mark on both the club and the city: Diego Maradona. It was here that the Argentine number 10 delivered Napoli's first two Scudetti, in 1987 and 1990. His legacy lives on through a museum and exhibition space dedicated to him inside the ground.

The stadium is reachable by metro (line 2, Campi Flegrei stop) or by bus, and sits comfortably within the fabric of the surrounding neighbourhood.
