About the stadium

El Sardinero, officially the Campos de Sport de El Sardinero, has been the home ground of Real Racing Club de Santander since it opened in 1988. It was built alongside the previous stadium, which was demolished the same year. Current capacity stands at 22,308 seats.

The ground sits in the Sardinero district, a coastal area a short walk from the beach and the Parque de Las Llamas, roughly 2.5 km from the city centre. This stretch of coastline was once used for fishing and drying sardines, hence "Sardinero", a name the neighbourhood adopted and the stadium later inherited.

A redevelopment project called Nuevo Sardinero is currently under review. Plans include raising capacity to 27,000 spectators, building a forecourt of over 26,000 m², adding new facilities (a museum, restaurants, and shops), and installing 4 to 6 lifts per side stand to improve accessibility.

El Sardinero offers a guided tour covering the club museum, changing rooms, press room, and pitchside area, led by a specialist guide. The tour also includes a virtual reality experience recreating the players' walk onto the pitch on matchday.
