About the stadium
The Benito Villamarín stadium is one of the most atmospheric grounds in Spain. Located in the Heliópolis district in southern Seville, it has been Real Betis Balompié's home since 1936 and now holds over 60,000 supporters on matchday. Opened in 1929 for the Ibero-American Exposition, it has been modernised repeatedly over nearly a century without losing its working-class character.
Watching a game here means experiencing the particular energy of the Béticos, known for their songs, their passion and their loyalty through good times and bad. The famous "¡Viva er Betis manquepierda!" rings around the ground and produces an atmosphere found nowhere else in La Liga.
The ground has hosted major occasions, including matches at the 1982 World Cup and the remarkable Spain vs Malta result (12–1) in 1983.
The Villamarín has been changing steadily: upgraded stands, VIP areas, LED lighting, a redesigned museum. A large-scale renovation project is currently underway that will add a full roof, a new main stand and commercial facilities.
Despite the works, the stadium remains accessible and easy to reach, a few minutes from Seville's city centre and well served by public transport. The Betis Tour takes you behind the scenes in around an hour, through the changing rooms, the players' tunnel, the trophy room and down to the pitch side, with commentary from dedicated guides.
Whether you come for a match, the guided tour or simply to take in the verdiblanca atmosphere, the Benito Villamarín offers a genuinely Andalusian football experience.
