About the stadium

The Estádio da Luz, home of Benfica Lisbon, is one of European football's landmark grounds. It opened in 2003, holds more than 65,000 and is recognizable for its big red arches and a roof that lets natural light through. Nicknamed "A Catedral", it has hosted the game's biggest names, from Cristiano Ronaldo to Messi, as well as Eusébio, the Lisbon club legend whose statue stands at the entrance.

The ground staged the finals of Euro 2004 and the Champions League (2014, 2020), cementing its place as a major European venue.

Whether you support Benfica or are simply curious, the stadium tour is worth your time. With a guide or on a self-guided tour, you can walk through the dressing rooms, the players' tunnel, the press room and the panoramic stands before heading into the Cosme Damião museum, which traces more than a century of history. The bolder visitors can even try the Slide in Stadium, a steep drop from the upper stands down to the edge of the pitch.

You can't talk about the Luz without mentioning the eagle "Vitória", the club's symbol, who flies over the pitch before every match. The ritual has become one of the highlights of home games and is a tradition the Benfiquistas hold dear.

The stadium sits on Avenida Eusébio da Silva Ferreira and is easy to reach by metro (blue line, Colégio Militar/Luz station) or by bus, with the large Colombo shopping centre right across the way. A must during any stay in Lisbon.

The tour of the stadium and the museum was amazing and I'd highly recommend it. Seeing the stadium, dressing rooms, all the trophiesand learning the team history was great. Our guide was hilarious and very knowledgeable and made the tour.

Really worth going. Especially the tour, it was guided by a soccer player. The tour includes a virtual reality experience. We spent 2.5 hours for the tour!. The museum staff are very friendly that they provide a riddle booklet for the children which made them get more involved in the museum.

My son loved the stadium walk thru experience. The whole family enjoyed the visit. However, the experience was not the greatest when I bought the online tickets, the tickets took a whole 90 minutes to reach my email post purchasing them. The organizers should really have a look at the UI/UX experience. For one of the best clubs in the world a 90 minutes delay to send a eticket is not acceptable, time to challenge your IT team. But other than that it was really a breathtaking experience and the staffs were very kind.

Wonderful guided museum experience by Andrea, highly recommended! Loved the tribute to 1949 Turino FC team who perished in plane crash after playing Benfica

I visited this museum as part of a tour that also includes the stadium. Though my favorite part was the stadium, the museum worth a visit, for sure. You can see here a lot of trophies won by the club over the years, at different sports, including two Champion's Cup trophies (the current UEFA Champions League trophy). Very nice arranged. Helpful staff. If you have a Lisbon card and want to benefit the discount you have to buy the tickets at the stadium entry, not at the museum.
