About the stadium
Opened in 2003 ahead of Euro 2004, Stade José Alvalade is the home ground of Sporting Clube de Portugal. With just over 50,000 seats and a UEFA Category 4 rating, it meets the requirements of Europe's top competitions. Designed by architect Tomás Taveira, the stadium takes its colours from Sporting's green and white.
Located in northern Lisbon, a short walk from Campo Grande station (metro green and yellow lines), it is straightforward to reach and sits next to a large shopping centre, Alvaláxia.
The ground has hosted several major events, including five matches at Euro 2004 and the 2005 UEFA Cup final.
On matchdays, José Alvalade rarely disappoints: the south stand concentrates most of the supporter groups, who are particularly vocal during European nights and the Lisbon derby against Benfica.
José Alvalade offers daily tours (except Mondays) lasting around one hour, covering the main areas of the stadium: dressing rooms, the players' tunnel, the stands, and the press room, as well as the Museu Mundo Sporting.
Modern, well connected, and home to one of Portugal's oldest clubs, the stadium is a natural stop for any football fan passing through Lisbon.
