About the stadium
The Estadio Metropolitano, opened in 2017 with a Liga match against Leganés, is the modern home ground of Atlético de Madrid. Built on the site of the former La Peineta Olympic stadium, it replaced the old Vicente Calderón. In 2024, a naming rights deal with Saudi airline Riyadh Air gave it a new name. The ground holds nearly 68,000 spectators, making it the third largest stadium in Spain after Camp Nou and Santiago Bernabéu.
Designed by the architecture firm Cruz y Ortiz, the Metropolitano combines modern design, comfort and sustainability. Ninety-six percent of seats are covered, the fully LED lighting system allows for elaborate light displays, and solar panels cut the building's energy footprint.
The stadium has been the backdrop for Atlético's recent successes, built around players such as Antoine Griezmann, Koke and Jan Oblak. It also hosted the 2019 Champions League final between Tottenham and Liverpool.

Visitors can explore the ground through the Atleti Tour, an immersive visit that takes in the dressing rooms, the players' tunnel, the pitch, the VIP boxes and the Territorio Atleti interactive museum. The museum covers 120 years of the Madrid club's history through trophies, testimonies and virtual reality experiences.
Located in the San Blas-Canillejas district in eastern Madrid, the stadium is straightforward to reach by metro (line 7, Estadio Metropolitano station) and served by several bus routes. On match nights, the atmosphere generated by the Colchoneros and the club motto "Coraje y Corazón" makes it one of the louder grounds on the continent.
