About the stadium
Located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, the Parc des Princes has been closely tied to Paris Saint-Germain since the club made it their home in the 1970s. The current stadium was inaugurated in 1972 and designed by architect Roger Taillibert, though the site itself dates back further: it operated as a velodrome as early as the late 19th century.
Founded in 1970, PSG played their first official match here in 1973 against Red Star, then settled in permanently in 1974 following promotion to the first division. Since then, the club has played more than 1,000 official matches at the ground.
The stadium holds close to 48,000 spectators. Its compact layout places the stands close to the pitch. The atmosphere is driven largely by the two end sections, Auteuil and Boulogne, where the most active supporters gather.
Before the Stade de France opened in 1998, the Parc des Princes was the main venue for French football's biggest occasions, hosting France national team matches and numerous domestic cup finals.
The ground has also hosted events beyond football. It was one of the venues for the 2007 Rugby World Cup (specifically the third-place match between France and Argentina) and was selected for the opening match of the 2019 Women's World Cup between France and South Korea. International artists have performed there as well, including the Rolling Stones, Johnny Hallyday, and more recently DJ Snake and Dadju.
On non-match days, the stadium is open to visitors through the Stadium Tour, which takes in areas normally off-limits to the public. The route runs approximately one hour and includes spaces reserved for players and media: dressing rooms, the players' tunnel, the dugouts, VIP boxes, and the press room. The visit also includes entry to the museum dedicated to PSG's history, covering trophies, shirts, and archive material.
Depending on the package, tours are either self-guided or led by a guide. Certain "matchday" experiences allow visitors to enter the stadium in pre-match configuration, with guided commentary and additional content.
