About the stadium
Perched on the hills above Girona, the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi is a compact ground that has come into the spotlight alongside the rapid rise of Girona FC. Opened in 1970, the stadium has been expanded several times as the club climbed through the divisions. It now holds around 14,600 seats, making it one of the smallest venues in La Liga, though rarely a quiet one: the tight stands and open layout naturally amplify the atmosphere on matchdays.
Montilivi is no modern giant, and that is precisely what defines it. Most of the stands are single-tiered, and the facilities do not compare to those of the Spanish top clubs. Even so, the Blanquivermells have written their biggest moments here, including playing Champions League football at home in 2024/25, a remarkable achievement for a stadium that was the smallest in the competition that season.
The away section, located in a corner between the Preferent and Gol Nord stands, offers a straightforward experience, though the area is open to the elements and has limited food and drink options.
Bars around the stadium are few; most supporters tend to stay in central Girona before making their way to Montilivi, which is about thirty minutes on foot or reachable via the L8 bus line. For those who want to see more, guided tours run Thursday to Sunday, covering the dressing rooms, press room, players' tunnel, and virtual reality experiences.
Montilivi is set to change considerably: a large-scale modernisation project is planned between 2028 and 2038, bringing new stands, a full roof, and an adjacent commercial zone. Until then, it remains a genuine, passionate ground where Catalan football is experienced up close.
