About the stadium
Opened in 2009, RCDE Stadium is RCD Espanyol's modern home ground. It straddles the municipalities of Cornellà and El Prat, about ten kilometres from the centre of Barcelona. Designed by architects Mark Fenwick and Esteve Gasulla, it was built as a functional, accessible venue with a capacity of just under 40,000 seats.
The architecture is defined by clean lines, a peripheral ring with translucent facades lit up in blue at night, and a roof covered with photovoltaic panels. Those panels shade 92% of the seats, making it one of the most energy-efficient stadiums in Europe. It was recognised as the best stadium in the world at the 2010 Stadium Business Awards shortly after opening.
Built to replace the old Estadi de Sarrià, it offers a comfortable matchday experience: stands close to the pitch, decent acoustics, and up-to-date facilities. The atmosphere is regularly noted, driven by pericos supporters who have a strong attachment to a ground that has become central to the club's identity.
The venue also offers an RCDE Stadium Tour covering behind-the-scenes areas, including dressing rooms, the players' tunnel, press room, and executive boxes, along with a trophy display and a 360° auditorium.
The stadium is well connected by public transport (metro, FGC, tram, Renfe) and sits next to the Splau shopping centre, making it straightforward to reach for both regular supporters and casual visitors.
