About the stadium

Located in San Sebastián in the Basque Country, the Anoeta stadium (now known as Reale Arena) is the home ground of Real Sociedad. Opened in 1993 to replace the old Atotxa, it underwent major reconstruction between 2017 and 2019. The athletics track was removed, the stands were brought closer to the pitch, and a new wraparound roof was added, turning the ground into a 40,000-seat bowl.

Designed by architect Izaskun Larzabal, the stadium combines good sightlines, comfort, and optimized acoustics. The stands, including the Aitor Zabaleta end and the Tribuna Familiar, reflect the identity of the txuri-urdin (blue and white) support. The atmosphere is notably loud during the Basque derby against Athletic Bilbao.

On non-matchdays, the Reale Arena is open to visitors: the interactive tour covers the behind-the-scenes areas, including the auditorium, dressing rooms, players' tunnel, and presidential box, and includes a 360° virtual reality experience on the pitch. The Museo Real 100, which traces over a century of the club's history, rounds out the visit.

The stadium is easy to reach from central San Sebastián by bus (lines 17, 21, 26, 28) or via Anoeta train station. It sits within a broader sports complex and also hosts rugby matches and major international concerts, from U2 to Bruce Springsteen.
